Before there was Libra, there was an abundance of fresh, exceptionally rich goat milk from our miniature goats—and a desire to create skincare rooted in French tradition and simplicity.
French Craftsmanship at the Heart of Libra
Eric was born and raised in Toulouse, in the South of France, where an appreciation for well-made everyday products was simply part of life.
When we began making skincare with milk from our own goats, Eric returned to those roots—learning from family and artisans around his hometown in France, then spending years refining these techniques that became the foundation of Libra.
Today, every Libra product is handcrafted by Eric in our studio located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, combining that French influence with fresh goat milk at the heart of every formulation.

Fresh Goat Milk. Always Our First Ingredient.
Our skincare began with the milk from our own goats—and fresh goat milk remains at the heart of everything we make.
We don't add a small amount simply so we can put “goat milk” on the front label. Fresh whole goat milk is always our first ingredient. In our moisturizers, it makes up 40% of the formulation. That's almost half the bottle!
We build our formulas around that fresh milk, combining it with botanical oils and butters to create gentle, deeply moisturizing skincare particularly suited to dry and sensitive skin.
For us, goat milk isn't the story added to the product. It is the product's foundation.
Libra's Promise: We will not grow by using less fresh goat milk, or replacing it with cheaper alternatives. What makes Libra different today will remain at the heart of our products tomorrow.
From Our Farm—and Farms Like Ours
Our skincare begins with the goats we raise and milk ourselves. We chose a miniature breed called Nigerian Dwarf goats because their milk is exceptionally rich, with naturally high butterfat levels that make it especially well suited to the deeply moisturizing skincare we want to create. They don’t produce a lot of milk compared to large goat breeds. True to the French traditions behind Libra, quality has always mattered more to us than quantity.
As Libra grows, we know our own herd won’t be able to provide all the milk we need. But rather than use less fresh milk or replace it with cheaper alternatives, we are choosing to grow differently: by working with small American family farms raising the same kind of dairy goats we do.
This part of Libra has become especially meaningful to us. Since COVID, we have watched too many small farms sell their herds or disappear altogether. These are often family-run farms where children grow up helping with chores, caring for animals, learning responsibility, and understanding firsthand where the things we use and consume actually come from.
We want Libra’s growth to help keep farms like these going. Supporting small dairy goat farms, preserving their knowledge, and contributing in our own small way to a more diverse American agriculture has become part of what we want this company to stand for.
Built by the Two of Us
In 2026, in our fifties and after decades in established careers, we both left our jobs to build Libra together.
We are both immigrants to America, each bringing a different story with us. Eric was born and raised in France and spent his career in the military, while Joanne grew up French Canadian and built her career in food safety and government regulation. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we both came to this new chapter with a deep respect for how things are made, what goes into them, and the importance of doing things properly.
Libra gave us the opportunity to bring together so many parts of our lives: Eric’s French roots and craftsmanship, our love of raising animals, Joanne’s background in quality, and a shared desire to create something tangible that was entirely our own.
And it is really only the two of us. We develop the products, milk the goats, make and package our skincare, photograph it, build the online store, fill the orders, attend the markets and make the decisions about where Libra goes next. There is no branding agency or outside creative team shaping the company behind the scenes.
What you see in Libra is us—our work, our standards, our mistakes, our ideas, and the company we decided to build together at a time in life when most people probably wouldn't choose to start over.

Why "Libra"?
When we created our company as husband and wife, it was important to us that the name represented both of us. We were both born in October, under the sign of Libra, so the name felt personal and a natural choice for something we were building together.
The name also came to represent the balance at the heart of our story. Eric was born and raised in France, while Joanne is French Canadian, and today we are building Libra together in America. It brings together our French heritage and our life in America, traditional craftsmanship and modern skincare, the milk from our own goats and the small American farms we chose to support.
Libra is more than the name on our products. It represents where we come from, what we make, and how we have chosen to build our company together.
Where Does Libra’s Fresh Goat Milk Come From?
From March through September, much of our fresh goat milk comes directly from our own herd of miniature Nigerian Dwarf goats, which we raise and milk ourselves. During the months when our goats are not in milk, we source from two small family farms we know and trust—one in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland, and one in Corbin City, New Jersey—both of which maintain year-round milking herds of the Nigerian Dwarf breeds, central to our formulations.
We chose these farms for more than their milk. They are two-generation family operations, where raising, caring for and milking the goats is truly a family endeavor. As we have watched many small Nigerian Dwarf dairy farms disappear in the years since COVID, supporting farms like these has become especially meaningful to us. By purchasing their milk, we can maintain a year-round supply of fresh, locally sourced goat milk for Libra while also helping provide a dependable market for small dairy-goat farms like our own.
It means we know where our milk comes from, who raised the goats, and who milked them—something that matters deeply to us when milk is the first ingredient in everything we make.
What Makes Libra Different from Other Goat Milk Skincare?
At Libra, goat milk is at the heart of the formulation. We are goat milk obsessed! Our moisturizers contain up to 40% fresh whole goat milk as the first ingredient, followed by premium botanical oils and butters. While many moisturizers begin with water, Libra begins with fresh milk. It is one of the fundamental differences you can see right on our ingredient lists.
What Does “French-Inspired” Skincare Mean?
Libra’s approach is rooted in our co-founder Eric’s French background and the traditional methods he learned from family and artisans near his hometown of Toulouse, France. That heritage influences both how we formulate and the ingredients we choose, particularly the importance we place on goat milk itself.
Rather than relying on lower-cost processed goat milk ingredients sourced from abroad, we stay closer to the French tradition of working with fresh milk. We use fresh American goat milk in our formulations, paired with carefully selected botanical oils, butters and extracts.
Every Libra product is handcrafted in our studio on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, in small batches, rather than outsourced to a large contract manufacturer. It allows us to remain closely connected to our ingredients, our formulations and the way each product is made.
